A4Q Digital Accessibility

In the A4Q Digital Accessibility certification seminar, you will acquire basic knowledge and skills for the accessible design of digital products and services.
You will learn to systematically recognize accessibility requirements, apply the relevant standards and legal requirements (such as WCAG and EU directives) and design digital content in an inclusive and user-friendly way.

This seminar is aimed at professionals from development, design, quality assurance and product management who design, implement or evaluate digital products or web applications.

You will gain a solid theoretical and practical understanding of the requirements for digital accessibility as defined by applicable laws (e.g. Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BITV) and international standards (e.g. WCAG 2.1).

In addition to the methodological and legal basics, participants learn how to systematically check digital content for accessibility, design accessible components and recognize and avoid typical barriers - both in the source code and in the design and editing.

In the A4Q certification seminar "Digital Accessibility", you will acquire basic knowledge and skills for the accessible design of digital products and services. You will learn how to systematically identify accessibility requirements, apply the relevant standards and legal requirements and design digital content in an inclusive and user-friendly way.

Target group

Software developers in particular, but also for product owners, project managers, quality managers, software development managers,
system analysts (business analysts), IT managers or management consultants .

Participants should in any case have basic practical programming experience.

Basics of digital accessibility

  • What does digital accessibility mean?

  • Why is accessibility necessary?

  • User groups and barriers in the digital space

  • Relevant legal foundations (EU Directive, BFSG, WCAG)

  • Principles of accessibility (POUR: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust)


International standards & legal framework

  • Overview of WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)

  • Requirements at levels A, AA, AAA

  • Implementation of the guidelines in the web and app environment

  • Reference to EN 301 549, EU Directive 2016/2102, Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG)


Technical basics & accessibility-related roles

  • Digital technologies and their impact on accessibility

  • Accessibility in design, frontend and editorial processes

  • Distribution of roles in the accessibility project

  • Collaboration with developers, testers and UX designers


Test procedures & test methods for accessibility

  • Categories of tests: automated, manual, user-supported

  • Selection of suitable test methods for projects

  • Application of accessibility testing tools

Learning objectives

After the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Promote efficient and targeted communication about digital accessibility by using a common vocabulary.

  • Understand the basic principles and legal requirements of digital accessibility and place them in their own work context.

  • interpret the WCAG guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and apply them specifically to websites, apps and documents.

  • design, evaluate and improveaccessible components and content- e.g. through alternative texts, color contrasts, keyboard navigation and focus management.

  • Recognize and resolve typical accessibility problems using supporting tools (e.g. screen readers, browser plug-ins, testing tools).

  • Prepare, conduct and document digital accessibility tests, including manual and automated testing procedures.

  • consider the accessibility of digital products early on in the development process - in close cooperation with UX, development and quality assurance.

  • Incorporate the legal requirements from EU directives, the German Accessibility Improvement Act and BITV 2.0 into projects and tenders.

The associated syllabus and exam questions are developed and published by the Alliance4Qualification (A4Q).
