What is tested?

Accessibility tests examine the extent to which digital products meet the requirements for legal compliance, user-friendliness and inclusion. Essentially, these tests ensure that all people can use digital services without barriers.

Both automated and manual test procedures are used for this purpose. A particular focus is placed on the use of assistive technologies - i.e. aids such as screen readers, Braille displays or voice controls that people with disabilities are dependent on.

The tests also analyze how well digital services respond to the diverse needs of different user groups. These include blind and visually impaired people as well as people with motor or cognitive impairments, deaf users, older people or people with temporary disabilities.

In concrete terms, the following is tested:

Are ticket stores easy to use for screen reader users?
Can online banking be controlled using the keyboard only?
Do websites remain easy to read when enlarged and contrast-adjusted?
Do web meetings allow deaf participants to participate fully through subtitles?
Are online forms easy to understand?
Can mobile apps be operated well with one hand, with tapping and voice commands or with coarse motor skills?
