Computer Science Day 2026 at HTW Berlin: How TestSolutions Inspires the Next Generation of Software Quality Professionals

Computer Science Day 2026 at HTW Berlin: How TestSolutions Inspires the Next Generation of Software Quality Professionals

What happens when students hear for the first time that quality assurance isn’t just about fixing bugs? That’s exactly what we experienced on June 23, 2026, at HTW Berlin’s Computer Science Day—and it was a really great day.

TestSolutions was represented by its Berlin office with its own booth.  The team on site consisted of Benjamin (Claus) Franneck, a software tester, and Steve Plath, QA Lead Tester, together with Justin Hamann, Account Manager. For us, the day was above all a valuable opportunity to engage with students, present TestSolutions as an employer, and provide a genuine insight into our work—with a focus on dialogue, networking, and getting to know potential new colleagues.

The atmosphere at the event

The atmosphere was open, friendly and lively. The students were curious and quickly started talking to us. Some came up to us specifically, while others were drawn over by our small merchandise giveaway. This was very well received and provided a relaxed way to initiate meaningful professional discussions. We also had positive interactions with the other six exhibitors.

What the students wanted to know

Most of the conversations focused on internships and part-time student jobs. Many of the students were in their second to fourth semesters and wanted to know how they could gain their first practical experience in software testing at TestSolutions.

There were also many questions about our actual work: What exactly does TestSolutions do? What projects do we manage? What does a typical day in software quality assurance entail? Manual testing, test automation and agile methods such as Scrum were particularly common topics of discussion. It was clear that many students were building on their coursework and wanted to know how all of this plays out in our client projects specifically.

Topics, Team Culture, and Openness

We provided an overview of TestSolutions’ services and presented various projects. The focus was on the following points:

  • Manual testing and structured quality assurance

  • Test automation—tools, methods, and entry-level opportunities

  • Cybersecurity testing as a growing field

  • AI in software testing: How GenAI training helps us stay up to date

  • Digital accessibility — a key focus at our Berlin location

The topic of AI was raised several times. Here, we demonstrated that we are actively addressing the topic, rather than just using it as a buzzword. We recognise that it is a relevant development that is increasingly transforming testing.

As well as technical topics, there was also a lot of discussion about our team. Our flat hierarchies, open corporate culture and description of the Berlin office were well received. Questions were also asked about the proportion of women on our team and our LGBTQ-friendly environment. The fact that we could speak openly about these issues, and that our Berlin office has a young, diverse team, was very well received. Many saw the proportion of women at 50 percent as a strong positive signal.

On days like these, it is important to us not only to talk about projects, but also to be transparent about how we work together. This is often just as crucial for students as the actual task at hand.

Digital Democracy and Software Quality

The theme of Computer Science Day was 'Digital Democracy', which is clearly relevant to our work. Digital systems are having an increasingly significant impact on how people access information, make decisions and use services.

For these systems to be considered trustworthy, they must be secure, transparent, accessible and reliable. This is precisely where quality assurance comes into play. High-quality software builds trust because without trust, digital participation becomes difficult.

Our Impressions of Computer Science Day – Consultants Meets Students

What particularly struck us was that many students genuinely wanted to understand what their entry into the professional world might look like—not just to check off the mandatory internship during their studies, but to develop real career prospects. It was great that we could say: Yes, an internship in software testing with us can lead to more. We have colleagues whose careers began exactly that way. This was an important point for many and clearly delighted some of them.

'My personal highlight was presenting TestSolutions as an employer and showcasing our exciting projects in the lecture hall, for which we received very positive feedback from the faculty. Our presentation was described as particularly engaging, which made us very happy', says Benjamin (Claus) Franneck, software tester at TestSolutions Berlin.

Afterwards, around ten interested attendees came straight to our stand to find out more about TestSolutions. It was a great feeling, showing that the presentation went well and really sparked interest. For anyone who’s interested: The Middle Eastern-inspired buffet was also a real highlight of the day.

Why Exchange and Networking Are Important

It’s important to us to engage in regular dialogue with students, faculty, alumni and other Berlin-based companies. Our goal is to share our knowledge and benefit from learning about students' questions and perspectives.

HTW Berlin’s Computer Science Day showed that there is a lot of interest in software testing, quality assurance, and test automation, and that many students would welcome guidance from companies that present themselves as open and approachable.

Interested students could scan QR codes to access our careers page directly. We exchanged LinkedIn connections and shared work email addresses to stay in touch.

Many thanks to HTW Berlin for the warm welcome, excellent organisation and great refreshments at Computer Science Day. We would also like to thank all the students whose questions made the day so lively, and of course our team, who made the booth possible in the first place.

We are taking many fruitful conversations, new contacts and a very positive impression back to our Berlin office.
