Software Testing
for Banking & Finance
Banks, brokers, and financial service providers are modernizing systems that must run reliably every day. At the same time, regulatory requirements are changing, core systems are being migrated, AI is being deployed in production, and release cycles are getting shorter. Errors here don’t just affect operations. They impact customer funds, compliance obligations, and trust in your institution.
For over 10 years, we have been supporting financial institutions and their IT service providers in precisely these initiatives. We work in regulated environments alongside your own testing teams: from test policy and program-wide consulting to operational work in sprints and acceptance testing prior to release. As a full-service provider in software testing, we cover the entire spectrum, from test strategy to a scalable test factory.
Industry Expertise
Core banking systems, payment processing, securities trading and custody account management, account opening and master data, customer portals and banking apps, as well as the interfaces between them: We understand the business processes behind your software. This understanding ensures that our testing activities are not only technically sound but also business-relevant.
Managing Complexity and Interdependencies
Organically grown system landscapes, acquired units, legacy core systems, and new cloud components run in parallel, often for years. A change in one place has a ripple effect on downstream systems. We create transparency regarding these dependencies and consistently align quality assurance with business-critical processes.
Seamlessly Integrated
We work with the tools already in place in your environment: Jira and Xray, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Selenium, Appium, Postman, JMeter, NeoLoad, and more. We integrate test management and automation into your existing development and release processes, rather than building a separate system alongside them.
Verifiability
Regulators, internal audit, and outsourcing control view a release differently than your release committee. They ask about responsibility, scope, and the origin of the results—and they often ask years later. We tailor test documentation to this second audience from the very beginning.
-Banking Expertsfor Software Testing
Your IT staff knows your organization better than any external service provider ever could. What they lack is rarely expertise, but rather capacity, especially when regulatory compliance, migration, sprints, and regression testing all come due at the same time. We take work off their hands—not away from them.
In doing so, we consistently stand on the side of the software users: the financial institutions that must implement, customize, integrate, and approve systems. Our experts bring together business processes, technical dependencies, and regulatory requirements, working closely with IT departments as well as business units, compliance, and audit.
Depending on your needs, we can handle specific specialized tasks, long-term testing campaigns, or scalable delivery responsibilities.
We can handle the entire delivery process from Germany. We provide additional capacity through our locations in Rwanda and India. Ramp-up and ramp-down remain predictable and flexible.
If approval
needs to be justified
"The most difficult question in our projects rarely comes from the technical side. It is: On what basis did you approve it back then?
If you’re only looking for an answer to that after the fact, you’ve already lost. Those who have established that basis beforehand make decisions more quickly and calmly, even under deadline pressure.
That’s exactly where we provide support: ensuring that the decision is sound at the moment of approval and remains so later on.”
-- Enrico Ausborn, Head of Business Unit Financial Services
Challenges in Banking and Financial IT
Financial institutions operate systems that must be available around the clock, technically sound, and auditable. At the same time, migrations, consolidations, and new digital offerings continue to proceed in parallel.
The requirements for stability, data protection, and auditability leave little room for flexibility. The right solution is never a one-size-fits-all approach: it is tailored to the system landscape, the operational context, and the requirements of the specific program.
We are familiar with the following challenges—and many others—from our project experience in banking, brokerage, and payment processing.
-
Evidence is obtained too late
In many programs, thorough testing is conducted, yet the results are still difficult to document. Test cases are stored in one tool, requirements in another, and approval decisions in meeting minutes and email inboxes. Before an audit, the reconstruction begins: Who approved what, when, and on what basis? This takes weeks, ties up exactly the people who are needed elsewhere, and can be avoided if the integration is in place from the very beginning.
-
Test data with no owner
After years of acquisitions, mergers, and reorganizations, it is often no longer clear who owns an application’s test data. When it comes to interfaces, the situation is even more unclear. As a result, every project ends up searching for the same data sets all over again—in the wrong volume and in the wrong state—and end-to-end testing quietly becomes impossible. Added to this are the GDPR’s requirements for production-like environments.
-
Migrations with a Fixed Deadline
Consolidations, carve-outs, data center relocations, cloud migrations, and the replacement of core systems all have one thing in common: The go-live date is set, has been communicated, and is non-negotiable. The technology is rarely the critical factor. The real challenges arise from the data landscape—which no one has modeled in advance—and from the coordination among the parties involved.
-
Performance During Trading and Payment Peaks
Trading platforms, payment gateways, and customer portals must remain fast and stable precisely when traffic peaks: during market volatility, on key dates, following campaigns, or during a migration. A timeout at the wrong moment isn’t just a technical detail—it’s a customer and reputation issue. Without realistic load scenarios, resilience remains merely an assumption.
-
AI in the Home, Without a Benchmark
AI-powered features are being rolled out into production before it has been clarified how their results are actually measured. Traditional test cases are of limited use for systems that do not respond deterministically. Verifiable acceptance criteria, defined data sets, and documentation that stands up to scrutiny by third parties are required. Conversely, we use AI in testing itself only where it genuinely reduces effort.

Quality Assurance That Works in a Sprint
"In a sprint, quality is rarely determined solely by the testing method. It arises when suitable test data is available, the test environment is set up, and the business, development, and testing teams share the same vision of the target state.
Once that’s clear, even sophisticated testing—both functional and non-functional—becomes planable.
This groundwork is unspectacular. But it’s the reason why releases ultimately succeed.”
-- Qendrim Grainca, Service Delivery Manager, Banking
Professional Services
We support banks and financial service providers with experienced specialists at the intersection of technical expertise and operational implementation. This includes test managers, test analysts, test automation engineers, and technically proficient testers for core banking processes, payment transactions, securities settlement, portals, and mobile applications.
Typical areas of expertise include:
- Test management and test coordination in projects and programs
- Functional and mobile testing during sprints, as well as regression testing prior to release
- API and database testing extending into the backend
- Test data procurement, pseudonymization, and environment coordination
- Defect analysis, reporting, and support for release decisions
Managed Services
When testing requirements scale, we also assume responsibility in the form of structured managed services. This includes clearly defined delivery models, coordinated testing campaigns, centrally managed defect processes, services closely aligned with the test factory, and flexible scaling across locations.
This level of control is particularly valuable when an issue spans the entire system landscape. In a program for the pseudonymization of test data, we used this approach to map out a portfolio of more than 70 applications, clarify responsibilities, and track progress until completion.
Consulting
Not every problem in quality assurance is a resource issue. Often, the first step is to gain clarity on risks, processes, roles, test coverage, or tooling.
We advise banks and financial service providers on the following issues, among others:
- Developing appropriate testing strategies for mature system landscapes
- Maturity analysis and optimization of existing QA processes
- Governance for test data, environments, and release quality
- Selection of tools and frameworks for test management and automation
- Establishing end-to-end traceability from requirements through to release
- Integration of quality assurance into agile and hybrid delivery models
Tools & Technical Implementation
Our teams work with established tools and, when necessary, use their own frameworks or specialized tools.
In the banking and finance sector, these range from Jira, Xray, and Confluence to Selenium, Appium, Cucumber, and Postman, as well as JMeter, NeoLoad, monitoring dashboards, and specialized tools for test data management and pseudonymization.
For us, the tool is not an end in itself; what matters is the robust validation of your business-critical processes and the traceability of the results.
Academy
Through the TestSolutions Academy, we support companies not only in their day-to-day operations but also in building internal expertise.
Our offerings include accredited and customized training—ranging from ISTQB to Agile Testing and test management, as well as AI testing, test automation, and specialized to client-specific in-house formats.
This is particularly valuable for banks and financial institutions when they want to permanently embed testing expertise within functional and project teams, rather than having to rebuild it from scratch for every new project.
